The 50th anniversary of Her Majesty of Denmark The Queen’s accession to the throne

A number of the events that had been scheduled to mark the 50th anniversary of Her Majesty of DenmarkThe Queen’s accession to the throne in mid-January 2022 will instead be held on 10 and 11 September 2022. These include, among other things, a celebration at the Copenhagen City Hall, a command performance at the Royal Danish Theatre’s Old Stage, a celebratory church service in Copenhagen Cathedral and a gala banquet at Christiansborg Palace. In addition, there will be an opportunity to pay tribute to The Queen in connection with a grand changing of the guard at Amalienborg Palace Square. The final program will be announced later in the year.

The adapted program for the anniversary day on 14 January 2022 thus looks like this:

09:30: HM The Queen of Denmark the day with a council of state at Christiansborg Palace together with HRH The Crown Prince.

10:00: HM The Queenof Denmark The Crown Prince Couple, TRH Prince Joachim and Princess Marie and HRH Princess Benedikte attend the Danish Parliament’s official celebration of the anniversary of Her Majesty’s accession to the throne.

12:00: HM The Queen, The Crown Prince Couple, TRH Prince Joachim and Princess Marie, HRH Princess Benedikte and HM Queen Anne-Marie participate in a wreath-laying ceremony at Frederik the 9th and Queen Ingrid’s grave at Roskilde Cathedral.

On kongehuset.dk, a theme page for the 50th anniversary of The Queen’s accession to the throne is set up, and information about the jubilee is continuously updated. There, it is also possible to download the official jubilee logo, which is made available for the celebration throughout the year. Likewise, on the Royal House of Denmark’s website on 14 January, a congratulations list will be set up, and there it will be possible to send personal felicitations to The Queen on the occasion of the anniversary. Due to the coronavirus situation, it will not be possible to show up in person at Det Gule Palæ at Amalienborg, which is otherwise the tradition for major events in the Royal House of Denmark.

A message of congratulations from one Jubilee Queen to another

Queen Elizabeth II has sent a special message to Queen Margrethe II as the Danish Monarch marked her Golden Jubilee.

The UK Embassy in Denmark revealed that congratulations had winged their way from London to Copenhagen but kept the contents of the missive secret.

The link between the two Jubilee Queens of 2022 was revealed as the Embassy sent congratulations to Margrethe II as the 50th anniversary of her reign dawned.

On Twitter, the Embassy said ”The British Emb. wishes Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II congratulations on the 50th Anniversary of her accession to the Danish throne” and added its thanks for a ”good, long-standing” relationship between the two countries during her reign.

The King of Sweden sent a telegram to his cousin in Copenhagen, telling her ”I send my and the Swedish people’s sincere congratulations”. He referenced the impact of the pandemic on celebrations, which have been scaled back with many events postponed until later in 2022. King Carl XVI Gustaf said ”The Queen and I look forward to seeing you again as soon as circumstances allow.”

Norway’s Royal Family also sent congratulations and spoke of the warm relationship between them and the Danish Queen as well as her love of Norway.

Margrethe II became Queen of Denmark on January 14th 1972 on the death of her father, King Frederik IX. She marks her Golden Jubilee on January 14th 2022. Elizabeth II marks her Platinum Jubilee just weeks alter, on February 6th 2022.
