Minister of Denmark for Civil Security and Emergency Preparedness Torsten Schack Pedersen: EU must strengthen preparedness against crises and climate
Denmark wants to strengthen the EU’s joint preparedness in light of growing uncertainty and climate change. That was the message from Minister for Civil Security Torsten Schack Pedersen (V) on Tuesday at an EU ministerial meeting in Copenhagen.
“We are facing increasing levels of conflict and more extreme weather events such as wildfires and floods,” he said.
At the meeting, the EU ministers discussed the Commission’s new preparedness strategy, which includes proposals for joint stockpiling of medicine and energy equipment.
Torsten Schack Pedersen emphasized the need for common solutions, such as aircraft for firefighting and rapid repair of critical infrastructure.
“The strategy comes at exactly the right time,” he stated.

Press conference with Kaare Dybvad Bek, Minister for Immigration and
Integration, Peter Hummelgaard, Minister for Justice, Torsten Schack
Pedersen, Minister for Resilience and Preparedness, Magnus Brunner,
Commissioner for Internal Affairs and Migration, and Hadja Lahbib,
Commissioner for Preparedness and Crisis Management.
Each minister and commissioner will make a short statement followed
by questions from the media. The press conference will be streamed.
