“The EU is facing major challenges, including the war in Ukraine, climate change, demographic shifts, and rising global demand for food and proteins. Food security should therefore be at the core of the EU’s approach to the agri-food sector, with the Common Agricultural Policy as the best instrument to ensure food security and a level playing field in the EU. During the past days, we have focused on solutions that can both strengthen competitiveness and accelerate the green transition. Today, we discussed how we – by encouraging innovation, simplifying regulation and supporting use of new technologies – can help build a resilient and sustainable future for European farmers. In a time of new developments in global trade, the EU must provide the agri-food sector with the best possible conditions to compete globally, and to export its products,” says minister for Food, Agriculture and Fisheries, Jacob Jensen.
As a part of the programme, the Ministers also visited Novenesis, Aggersvold Estate and Søgaard plant farm, where the focus was on future-proofing the European agricultural sector and new solutions, which can potentially support the green transition as well as offer new solutions to support the competitiveness of European farmers.
