Culture Events of 2013

It is known to all people with a basic knowledge of China that, the People’s Republic of China was founded on October 1, 1949. The Central People’s Government held the ceremony grandly in Beijing that day. Mao Zedong, Chairman of the Central People’s Government then, stepped on Tiananmen Gate Tower and announced in Xiangtan accent that the Central People’s Government of the People’s Republic of China was founded and Chinese people have stood up. This was a token for establishment of the People’s Republic of China. Thereafter, Chinese government set October 1 as the National Day.

It is also known to all that Zhuge Liang was the prime minister of the Shu-Han Dynasty during the Three Kingdoms period and also a renowned politician, a military strategist and an inventor in Chinese history. He was a military counselor of Liu Bei during the Three Kingdoms period.

Empty Fort Strategy devised by Zhuge Liang is a household word in China. One day, Sima Yi led 150,000 soldiers to besiege the city where Zhuge Liang and his 5,000 soldiers stayed. In this circumstance, Zhuge Liang asked two servants to carry a Guqin and follow him to step on the gate tower. They burned incense and then played the Gunqin with ease and smile. Seeing this situation, Sima Yi commanded his army to retreat immediately. Later, Zhuge Liang usually won in wars and played a decisive role in enabling Sun-Liu Alliance and establishing the Shu-Han Dynasty.

Academic Annual Conference of Institute for Cultural Diplomacy (ICD) was held on the morning of December 19, 2013 in Europe House (The European Parliament Information Office and European Commission Representation Berlin). At the conference, Junhong Lu, the President of Australia of Oriental Radio delivered a wonderful and impressive speech in standard and fluent English on the rostrum. Lu is a worldwide renowned Chinese spiritual leader and has been committed to teaching Buddhism for over 20 years in Australia.

Lu said, “For the past 20 years, I devoted myself to promoting Chinese culture and facilitating world peace. Today’s success proves EU governments’ have recognized my teaching of Buddhism. It will be a new start for me. I will step forward continuously and try my best to encourage and drive worldwide people to follow Buddhism and find their spiritual sustenance and contribute to world peace.”

After his speech, Dr. Marzenna Guz-Vetter, a member of European Commission, returned to his VIP seat in the first row (by my right hand) and said to me, “Junhong Lu carries his ideas and concepts about peace into Europe House for the first time today. It means his religious and peace concepts will win a place in Europe House. He is a genuine world peace messenger.”
